The College has relocated the old St Mary's Church from Aberdare
(near Cessnock NSW) to Bishop Tyrrell Anglican College Grounds around 1998
when the college was first established; the building is re-dedicated under
the patronage of St Mary and St John serves the College's needs, as well as
the needs of the Anglican Community fin Bluegum Hills.
This building provides
a sacred space for regular chapel services, a weekly Staff Eucharist’s and
Sunday worship for groups up to 120 people. It provides a focus for the spiritual
life and development of both the College community and the wider community.
Various Diocesan organisations and groups also make use of the College at mutually
convenient times. As the school community has grown the chapel space is now stretched
to meet the needs of students, staff and community, a DA for extensions has been lodged
with
and approved by the Newcastle City Council.
This extension will provide
a much nededed vestry, modified entry and a larger
awning covering the entrance. A fund raising venture
will be announced in the near future to assist the
Chapel Community and College to fund the building works.
